This Bob Oram Design 44C is a comfortable cruising catamaran with daggerboards, kick-up rudders and shaft driven props. Xtra Chilli was built in 2004 and her shallow draft has allowed us to anchor and enjoy so much of the reef, offshore islands and isolated parts of the Queensland coast. She has been easily handled by the two of us throughout our late 50s, 60’s and now early 70s, we can beach her and clean the bottom and anchor in water shallow enough to step ashore
Xtra Chilli’s accommodation includes a main saloon with comfortable settees, a navigation and entertainment centre and multiple storage options. The cockpit is the base for steering and sail manangement and is designed for leisure with good seating, a SS BBQ, a solid roof, clear covers and awnings for weather protection. The port side galley is spacious and functional with excellent storage capacity and portable frig/freezers. The two queen size sleeping cabins aft have high quality mattresses (split for easy engine access) as well as stowage, privacy and really good ventilation. The starboard hull includes a spacious shower/vanity area and separate electric toilet (with treatment unit and holding tank) as well as a work bench and tool storage.
A major refit was completed in October 2018 at the Urangan boat harbour by Sandy Straits Marine. The refit included sandblasting old anti-foul paint, new copper epoxy coating on hulls, all new SS skin fittings, new Lexan windows, repaint of decks and non skid areas, vinyl wrapping of hulls, new navigation instruments, new deck hardware.
The refit was planned for us to have several more years sailing the Queensland coast, but sadly life intervened and a change in health means she is now up for sale. Xtra Chilli is berthed in Hervey Bay, Queensland Australia and the berth until October 2019 is included.
